Buena Vista Social Club’s Eliades Ochoa and guest Laura Fernandez at The Opera House

Canada’s RNS Concert Productions proudly presents Cuba’s Grammy Award winning Buena Vista Social Club in three intimate evenings with legendary guitarist and singer, Eliades Ochoa with special opening guest, Laura Fernandez. Ochoa is one of the key members and contributors of the Buena Vista Social Club. With roots in “guajira” (Cuban country) fans won’t be able to sit still when his eight piece band creates an infectious sound of country, salsa and traditional rock. The authentic Afro-Cuban beats will have the audience movin’ and groovin’ all night long.

Eliades Ochoa with Laura Fernandez will be shaking up the stage in Toronto at the Opera House on Saturday, April 28, 2012.

The cultural phenomenon, Eliades Ochoa, is a living testament to the universal popularity of Cuban “son” music. Although a younger member of the Buena Vista Social Club, he is backed by a nearly half century long music career and has become something of an elder statesman. Eliades Ochoa picked up his first instrument at the age of six and by his early teens was the leader of the legendary group Cuarteto Patria. His trademark cowboy hat and penchant for wearing black has dubbed him as 'Cuba's Johnny Cash'. Eliades Ochoa is considered one of the most important Cuban 'soneros' of all time and guardian of traditional Cuban music.

Bands: Kosmograd, Black Faxes, and

Writers: Jessica Westhead and Jamie Popowich

After the smashing success of the first Wrecking Ball, an apocalyptic celebration of literature and heavy metal that took place during the last Scream Literary Festival, Golden Spruce Entertainment decided to expand this mixed media extravaganza into an ongoing series!

The Autumn Edition of this dynamic performance series will feature musical performances by:

Kosmograd have been called progressive, post-metal, post-hardcore, sludge, and post-punk. They are crushing and weird, and play with light and dark textures in their sound, tenderness mixed with violence. They like dinosaurs and outer space.

Black Faxes are heavy, gritty, and nerdy enough to refer to themselves as level 70 orc-mages in their bio (♥). They fuse punk and metal brilliantly, while making capes and wizardry dangerous.

...and readings by:

Jessica Westhead's recent collection of short fiction, And Also Sharks, knocked everyone's socks off. She writes about mundane, wholesome people in a way that is deeply intimate and unsettling. Sweet mistress of the sucker punch.

Jamie Popowich once wore a terrifying bunny mask to one of Natalie Zed and Eugenia Catroppa's parties. He wore it all night, drinking through a straw, and talking to no one. His newest collection, Metraville, is going to be a doozy.

Theatre.IV.Mimmo Presents: A Staged Reading of Arthur Miller's A View From the Bridge...

''September 14th and 15th 7:00 PM at the Columbus Centre 901 Lawrence Ave. West.''

Upcoming Event:' 'Theatre.IV.Mimmo’s first production: A staged reading of Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge featuring: Frank Ruffo, Adrian Griffin, Marc Bondy, David Gingerich, Rose Napoli, Anita LaSelva, Ryan Tilley, and Stefano DiMatteo. Directed by Rod Ceballos.

''Why Bridge?' From the beginning of the 19th century onward, a substantial influx of Italians immigrated to Canada searching for better lives for their families. Mimmo Napoli was one of these wide-eyed men looking to raise a family, start a life in Canada. It was not without trial and hardship that Mimmo and the thousands of other Italians immigrated to this Country. But the View was Bright and as of 2006, Italian Canadians account for nearly TEN percent of Toronto’s entire population. “A View From the Bridge” highlights the plight of immigrants, the continuing struggle to make a home out of a foreign land, and out of a new culture. Arthur Miller’s story resonates for its brave and honest look at our trials as foreigners and as humans.'
